This male, adult Pipistrellus nathusii was found grounded at Victoria College. After 36 hours of hydrating, feeding & flight testing, he was considered ready for release. This species can migrate large distances. Longest documented distance over 2000km between Russia & Iberian Peninsular. We imagine he will be on his way soon out of this awful weather. This is a long video so just watch the first minute to see the bats emerging from this roost. We have been monitoring this Myotis nattereri roost for over 2 years and usually only see 10 or so emerging. At least 38 emerged last night to my surprise. This beautiful Nyctalus leisleri bat was found in a bathroom in a private house at Rozel. The species is very rare for Jersey, & has only been discovered once before in 2002. The male adult was brought in to me by a caring person, & was in need of hydration & feeding. Successful release of our long-term Pipistrellus pipistrellus last night. She came to us with a large wing tear which healed up over a month. Flight training was started & when she could sustain flight we decided she was ready for release. Delayed by weather for a couple of days but all went well last night.
