If a bat enters your home during hot weather, for example during the heatwave we are experiencing in Jersey, the best course of action is to open windows and doors, turn off lights, and allow the bat to exit on its own. If the bat is injured or unable to leave, or is seen during the day, contact the Jersey Bat Group (please see pinned post). Do not attempt to handle the bat directly with your bare hands. ... ๐ŸŒ™๐Ÿฆ‡ That's a wrap for the Great Garden Bat Watch 2025! ๐Ÿฆ‡๐ŸŒ™A huge thank you to everyone who joined us this weekend to record and celebrate our local bats. Whether you spotted them swooping overhead or heard them through your detectors, every record helps build a better picture of our islandโ€™s bat populations. Here are two of our wonderful committee members getting involved โ€” braving the dusk chill with an Anabat detector and enjoying a coastal garden evening with a bat monitoring app!Your enthusiasm and support make events like this possible. Keep your eyes (and ears) open โ€” bats are active all summer long. ๐Ÿฆ‡โœจSee you next year!#GGBWJersey, #JerseyWildlife, #greatgardenbatwatch2025 ... See MoreSee Less

DON'T FORGET THE GREAT GARDEN BAT WATCH!The last 2 nights have been abysmal weather wise, but tonight looks promising. The bats will have been holed up in their roosts during the past 2 nights so will likely make an appearance tonight.Go outside into your garden, balcony, local park, beach around 21:00 and look up for bats. Note the time you see your first bat and the direction from which it flew. Make your report on the Jersey Biodiversity Centre and include your location, name and date. If you are unable to make tonight the survey can be done at any time during the summer.jerseybiodiversitycentre.org.je/records/Great-Garden-Bat-Watch ... See MoreSee Less

Here is a video of Hannah interviewing Dr Amy Hall, a previous chairman of the Jersey Bat Group & currently leading island bat ecologist. Don't forget - the Great Garden Bat Watch starts from today Friday 06 June to Sunday 08 June. Sunday looks the best day from weather point of view, but the survey can be done at any time this summer! ... See MoreSee Less
