Some of them are becoming endangered and International Bat Night was established to help promote a greater awareness and understanding of bats and why they deserve to be protected. This celebration is held by bat groups across the British Isles, such as the Jersey Bat Group, and the Bat Conservation Trust, to coincide with International Bat Night (formerly European Bat Night) which is organised by EUROBATS. The Bat Night has taken place every year since 1997 in more than 30 countries over the last full weekend of August. How to celebrate International Bat NightOne of the best ways to spend International Bat Night is by joining one of the Jersey Bat Group walks and celebrating the night with the members. You will have the chance to learn about how to be a bat detective – how you might be able to spot where bats live, where you could see them foraging, how to tell one kind of bat from another, and how they use echolocation to find their way in the dark, You will also have a chance to use a bat detector and see if you can spot any bats!Bat walksThe walks will be at three staggered pre-booked intervals: 20.00, 20.30 and 21:00 (15 people per group). Please arrive at the location 10 minutes before your ticketed time. The walk will last approximately one hour and you will need suitable clothing, sturdy walking shoes and a torch.Thank you to Jersey Water for kindly allowing us to use their site.Items to purchase after the walkThere will be various batty items for sale at the meeting point.Refreshments are not being provided. For further details contact Jersey Bat Group: enquiries@jerseybatgroup.org2022-08-11 ... We released this male juvenile Pipistrelle on Wed after it had been found in a house. Thank you to the home owner who took it to New Era vets and thanks to the vets and nurses who looked after him and fed him for 4 days prior to release. We will be hosting a public walk at Queen's Valley Reservoir on 27th July, starting at 20.40. Please let all your friends know about the walk, and anyone else that might be interested in bats! This is a ticketed event and tickets are limited. The link for signing up is: www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/public-bat-walk-wednesday-27th-july-2022-tickets-371363778057As you will probably have observed, at this time of year bats are busy feeding their young and themselves - making the most of all the insects they can catch! The walk will start with a chat about local bat species and an explanation as to how echolocation works. Then we will set off on a walk using bat detectors to help us spot the bats around us. For those attendees that would like to take part in other Jersey Bat Group's activities, the adult ticket price will include JBG membership for the rest of 2022 (the membership form will be available at the walk). You are welcome to forward this email to those that you think might be interested in attending. Our thanks go to Jersey walk for permission to use Queen's Valley reservoir for the walk. ...
